RAM, "Random Access Memory"

Good gaming RAM usually has a heat spreader like the Corsair Vengeance shown below

Most people who aren't knowledgeable about computers may say "Memory is your HDD!" Well, it's not. RAM, or Random Access Memory is the way your computer loads up pictures, programs, your internet browser, any other thing that it can "randomly" access.

When you open up a program such as Google Chrome, your RAM loads the program from your HDD for for use.
After you close the program, it is cleared from the RAM to make room for the next loaded program. The program isn't gone, it's still in your HDD waiting to be recalled for use later.

A higher amount of RAM determines weather your computer can run more programs, such as a VOIP (Voice Over IP) program, your game, and other misc programs like music all at the same time. Most gamers and computer builders will recommend 8GB, since it's the balance between price and performance.

For video and image editing, 16GB may be better suited to what you are doing.
64GB is only if you feel like running multiple instances of a game, or a LOT of browser tabs.
